Bohemian Rhapsody

Today I went to see Bohemian Rhapsody.  It is the newer movie about the rock band Queen and more about Freddy Mercury.  I was never a HUGE fan of Queen in the 70s and 80s but they had some great music and I am fascinated by Freddy Mercury and his brave AIDs battle when homophobia and AIDs was misunderstood and ostracized at the time.

I remember that time period very well as no one knew there was a virus you could catch through sex that would kill you.  We were all terrified as we learned about it.  It is amazing to me how 25 years later, people are back to being so casual about AIDs and other STDs.  Safe sex practices seem to have been forgotten.

Anyway, I really liked the movie and was moved by the story, the music, and remembering Freddy Mercury.  What a dynamic performer.  I must dig out my concert ticket stubs.  I’m pretty sure I went to see Queen live in the day.  I know the movie got slammed by the critics and some of it was not factual but the story was good and I enjoyed it.

I've spent the afternoon listening to Queen.  I still am not a HUGE fan but it was fun and triggered some fun memories of when I was younger.
